Missoula, MT – Helen Patricia “Pat” Morris Lyon, a longtime resident of Florence and Missoula passed in peace on December 28, 2019 in Missoula, MT. She now joins the loved ones who pre-deceased her.

Born on January 14, 1936 to the late James P. and Helen M. (McKnight Baldwin) Morris in Hawthorne, CA. Pat went to school in Butte, MT and after graduation from high school attended the Butte Business College. Pat was the oldest of four siblings.

Anyone who knew Pat would agree, Pat was a life force. There was never a stranger in her life. She had a genuine interest and love of people. Plus, she’d always find a way to put you to work doing something of value! She and Jerry were best known as the owners and proprietors of Fetty’s Bar and Café in Wisdom, MT where they endured the harsh winters and yet always had Fetty’s open. Fetty’s holds many happy memories for all her family.

Following the death of her husband she went to live with her son Steven and his wife, Dawn in CA and later returned to Florence where she’d resided for over 20 years. For the last 6 years she’s made her home at the Village Health Care Center in Missoula, while there she was President of the Village Residents organization, she delivered the daily Tidd-Bits and knew each and every resident. She took part in all activities and outings. She truly defined how she lived her life.

Each year as a momma duck or two would arrive in one of the court yards to lay her eggs and have her babies, Pat would ensure the momma and baby ducklings had food and water, bringing in 50 lb feed bags of duck food. When those ducklings were old enough to fly away, she bid them adieu and looked forward to not having to maneuver her chair around the messes made on the pathways by all the ducks and ducklings.

While there, she made many friends who came and went, but her mainstay friend, bingo partner and shopping buddy was Evelyn, who she loved and cherished. Many of her friends at the village will remember her from her zooming up and down the halls, into the rooms, nursing stations and media rooms on her electric chair with purpose. Rumor had it they were looking at putting a governor on the chair to slow her down a bit.

Pat was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband Jerry Lyon (2010), two of her three siblings, James P Morris (2018), Laurel A. (Morris) Stark (2014) and two great-grand daughters, Katie and Brittany (2003). She leaves behind one cherished sister, D. Colleen Morris of Sequim, WA as well as her three beloved sons, Steven D. (Dawn) Reed of Eureka, CA, Ronald R. (Deb) Reed (Florence, MT) and Kenneth B. Rodrigues (Knoxville, TN); and her treasured grandchildren, Trisha Riley, Erik Messina, Stephanie Gareis (Patrick), Scott Messina, Tammy Jo Reed, Chrissy Genaro (John), Michael Messina, Erin Messina, Patrick Reed, Timothy Reed (Charissa), Sirre Reed (Robyn), Sean Reed (Farrah), Ashley Sunamoto (Matt), Dominique Mathews, Nathan Mathews, Tawna Cox (Matt), A.J. Rodrigues, Gigi Rodrigues,. She is also survived by, 18 loving, great grandchildren: Mariah Gareis, Ruby Gareis, Jessica Silba (Johnny), Vincent Messina, Nathan Reed, Scott Reed, Chelsea Reed-Peek, Haylie Ingham (Craig), Andrew Reed( Kristen Gosnell), Tyler Sola, Devon Reed, Andrew Sola, Jayden Sola, Trenton Piazza, Trevor Piazza, John Bosco Sunamoto, Maylie Cox and Caleb Cox and 1 Great-Great Granddaughter, Jayden Silba with one to be born in 2020 (Reed/Gosnell). Pat also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews each one touching her life in meaningful ways as well as a host of life-long friends.

A scattering of both Pat and Jerry’s ashes will take place during the summer of 2020 with their family.

In lieu of funeral services, and to honor Pat’s character, we ask that all who wish to participate, to do a good deed for another person or pay something forward as that was something Pat did throughout her life.
