Obituary

Evelyn L. Marks, 93, passed away of natural causes on November 10, 2019, at the Village Health and Rehabilitation Center in Missoula, Montana.
Evelyn was born at home on Calf Creek in Garfield County, Montana, on February 18, 1926, to Knute and Pearl (Gibson) Nordahl. Her favorite memories were of her years growing up a part of a loving family on the lower Musselshell River. She attended school at the one-room Ross School and high school in Winnett and Jordan, Montana. She graduated from Garfield County High School in Jordan where she was a member of the girls’ basketball team. She still had the violin she played when she was younger.
Evelyn married Kern Marks on January 26, 1946. They lived on the Marks ranch in the lower Musselshell River area.
In 1953 Kern accepted a job at Ideal Cement near Manhattan, Montana, so their children could attend a larger school. In 1963 they moved to East Helena. Evelyn worked various jobs in the Helena area retiring from the State of Montana when they began their snowbird life spending winters in Quartzsite, Arizona, and returning to Montana in summers. They served as Forest Service Campground hosts at McGregor Lake for several years.
After Kern passed away, Evelyn relocated to Quartzsite and lived there until moving back to Missoula in 2017.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Bob Weinstock of Trinidad, Colorado, and son and daughter-in-law Ed and Colleen Marks of Missoula. She is also survived by her sisters Clara Miller of Stevensville, Montana, and Rose Marie Neuman of Muchea, West Australia; grandsons, Jeff (Allison) Weinstock and James (Larry) Weinstock; great grandsons, Matthew and Alex Davila; grandsons, Kern Marks, Kasey (Nicole) Marks, Kevin (Kate) Marks, great granddaughter, Donna Akers and great-great granddaughter Elana Akers. Also surviving are two sister-in-law Dorothy Weingart of Williams Lake, British Columbia, and Jerri Marks of Missoula and numerous nieces and nephews who made Evelyn so very happy when they would take the time to visit her.
Evelyn will be remembered for many reasons one of which would be her positive attitude while facing so many challenges these last few years
We are grateful to Norm and Bonnie Kolden of Pleasant View Personal Care and the staff at The Village for their kind and compassionate care of Evelyn.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held in the spring.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the donor’s charity of choice.
