The youngest child of Muriel Leaverton and Samuel V. Gee was born on November 20, 1943 in Ronan. His childhood was spent in many areas around Montana, before the family finally settled in Missoula. He attended school at St. Joseph’s and Whittier. As a young man, Cork guided out of Hole In The Wall lodge in Fish Creek.
His eldest daughter, Donna, entered his life in 1960, followed shortly by son Kenny in 1961, then daughter Patty in 1962. Darcy joined the family in 2000.
In 1965, he married the love of his life, Terry Lively and they spent the next 54 years surrounded by many dogs, cats and other animals. Cork and Terry weren’t just parents to their 4 kids, they also played prominent roles and provided stability in the lives of their nieces and nephews, LaRee, Kim, Joe, Evelyn, John and Melissa.
Cork enjoyed any adventure that involved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. The first three months of their marriage saw Cork and Terry spending every day fishing Rock Creek. Eventually the money ran out and they had to go to work and their residence on Homes. Cork worked for Steigler’s Home Center where he worked in many positions until 1989. Cork’s favorite position at Steigler’s was working on the game farm, especially the bear and feeding the deer cigarettes.
After being hurt on the job, he retired to his 40 acres, near Frenchtown where he boarded horses and spent summers custom haying.
Cork loved spending time with this family and teaching the new generations how to hunt, fish and trap. Many a day was spent with a fishing rod in his hands.
Later in life, when his health was declining, one of Cork’s favorite activities was watching old westerns on TV. When Terry retired in 2016, Cork reluctantly learned to share the TV and live sporting events like baseball and football became part of his daily routine. He also became a fan of the Osprey.
Cork was pre-deceased by his dad, Sam; mom, Muriel; brother, Sam; sister,Esther; niece Evelyn, sister-in–law Kathryn, son-in-law Dave, and great grand-daughter Aizlynn.
Cork is survived by his wife Terry, sister Mary, daughter Donna (Blaine) Dysinger, son Kenny (Arlene) Gee, daughter Patty Burnham, step-daughter Darcy (Terry) Biever and their families which include 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, with another one on the way; plus numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
Services will be held at Garden City Funeral Home at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 12, 2019 followed by a reception at the funeral home.
